海角社区 Marine Science students travel to Mississippi to study sharks in the Gulf Coast

Students from 海角社区 study sharks off the Gulf Coast

Students with the Sulikowski Shark and Fish Research Lab and the 海角社区 Center for Excellence in Marine Sciences traveled to Mississippi with Professor James Sulikowski, Ph.D., to study sharks off the Gulf Coast.

The trip is part of a trawl course Sulikowski teaches that gives students the opportunity to study at the Gulf Coast Research Lab. They examine how fish respond physiologically to climate change and other human induced stress, such as capture.

This year, the class captured and studied a tiger shark as well as a hammerhead. 鈥淭hese sharks are unique and difficult to find,鈥 said Sulikowski. 鈥淔or most of these students, that was a once in a life time experience.鈥
